First Indian Precinct in Dandenong, Wyndham will get one too

Victorian Multicultural affairs minister Robin Scott along with the Member for Dandenong Gabrielle Williams today announced that the much awaited Indian Cultural precinct will be developed at Little India in Foster Street in Dandenong. The minister also indicated that another precinct or Community centre will be built in Wyndham.

Dandenong was selected following consultation with the Indian community through an advisory panel and an independent feasibility study. 40% of Australia’s Indian population live in Victoria. The centre is expected to act as a hub for hosting Indian Events and will evolve into a tourism attraction.

The Victorian State Government will contribute $500,000 towards the project. Indians in both Dandenong and Wyndham had discussions with the Government and contested fiercely for the Cultural precinct. The Indian community in both the locations signed petitions calling for the Centre to be built in their places. The location for the Wyndham Centre is yet to be determined. The preferred locations are East Werribee or Point Cook.
