International Yoga Day 2016 at NSW Parliament

Hindu Council of Australia would like to invite you to International Yoga Day 2016 event, to be held at Jubilee Hall, NSW Parliament House, on 23rd June, Thursday, between 2pm – 5pm. The event is co-hosted by Hon. Geoff Lee, MP, Seat of Paramatta and Hon. Jodi McKay, MP, Member for Strathfield.

Various performances from prominent global and local Yoga schools will demonstrate different aspects of Yoga, including spiritual, philosophical, and physical, and its benefits on health and wellbeing. The inspiring event will be witnessed by different age and social groups, including other Members of Parliament, Indian community, individuals from private organisations and law firms.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY HISTORY:

21st June 2015 marks an important day in the recent history of contemporary yoga, after the United Nations passed the draft resolution establishing International Day of Yoga, endorsed by a record 175 member states. The resolution notes “the importance of individuals and populations making healthier choices and following lifestyle patterns that foster good health”. The proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly.

IYD was celebrated with much fervor across all major cities of Australia on 21st June 2015. Sydney witnessed a large gathering of Yoga enthusiasts for a sunrise Yoga session in Bondi beach, followed by series of Yoga sessions throughout the day and concluding with a Sun Salutation session at the Paramatta Town Hall.
