Kundalini Yoga

The Muladhar Chakra is the foundation of the spiritual development that nourishes the aspirations to reach the goal of union with the higher. It is like a mother’s womb that creates the essential requirements for the embryo. The Mūlādhāra Chakra is the starting point from where we climb for the spiritual improvement. It is the foundation from where we climb to other chakras. Because of this, it lies at the bottom of the spinal cord, just below the tail bone. The other name of the chakra is ‘Root Chakra’

Everyone sees and admires the flowers of a plant, but who cares to see the roots of the plant the lie buried deep in the earth ‘darkness. But, it is the roots that form the basis of the vegetation. Receiving the nourishment from the roots, the sprout gets the power in itself to pierce into the soil, develop upwards in the direction of the sun and generate seeds, fruits and flowers.

Muladhar Chakra is similar to the roots of a plant. There is an enormous source of energy within it. Kundalini Shakti is one such huge power of this cosmos that lies in the muladhar chakra in dormant form. We can experience it through childlike innocence that gives us a tremendous sense of direction and purpose of life. It is such a quality that can never be destroyed, but waiting to be notified as a form pure joy just as Kundalini awakes.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga, which is called Yoga Awareness, gives a unique experience of your own soul. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul. In this Yoga we control all the energies, both physical, mental, and put them under the mechanism of the soul.

It goes directly to the heart. There is hardly any word that can replace the experience. Unlike your mind, your consciousness can’t accept any words. When this yoga is applied to mind and body, it uplifts the spirit in a great way. It is universal and not restricted to any particular religion. It is not religion, but religion comes out of it. It is universal and not restricted to any religion.

What is Kundalini ?

Kundalini or Kundalini energy is the sleeping potential force situated at the root of the spinal column. In a male body it is in the perineum between the urinary and excretory organs. In the female body it is at the root of the uterus, in the cervix. This centre is known as mooladhara chakra. To awaken the kundalini to release the energy, one must practice asanas, pranayama, kriya, yoga and meditation. As the energy is released from the kundalini once it is woken up, it passes through the sushumna nadi to the brain. Along the way it passes through the chakras.

The Chakras

The literal meaning of Chakra is wheel. A Chakra is like a centrally placed electricity pole from which electrical wires are run into different places. The Chakras are vortices of psychic energy and they are visualized and experienced as circular movements of energy at particular rates of vibration. There are multitude of chakras in human body but six primary chakras, which are directly connected with the higher unilluminated centres of the brain.

They are

Mooladhara –

Muladhara is said to be located near the basal end of the spinal column in the vicinity of the coccygeal plexus beneath the sacrumit. It is a superficial activation point.

Swadisthana – located at the lowest point of spine

Manipura – Located in the spinal column in level with the naval.

Anahata – It lies in the vertebral column behind the base of the heart

Vishuddhi – It lies in level with the throat pit in the vertebral column.

Ajna – It is the most important chakra lying in the midline of the brain directly above the spinal column.

These six chakras serve as switches for turning on different parts of the brain.

There are two higher centres in the brain namely Bindu and Sahasradhara. Bindu is located in the top back of the brain. Sahasradhara is the supreme, final culmination of Kundalini Shakthi.

Kundalini can be awakened by chanting Manthra, tapasya, yoga, pranayama and kriya.

Who can Practice?

Kundalini yoga is for everyone – for every householder. The people, who have to cope with the everyday stresses and challenges of business and workplace, can successfully manage all the troubles. It is the path for everyone who wants to conquer the challenges of our time successfully.

Kundalini Yoga remained undisclosed until  1969 Yogi Bhajan openly taught it with a view to preparing the humanity for the ever changing planet as it is running through the ages from the Piscean to the Aquarian. The Kundalini Yoga mechanism of ancient times has made us aware of the transition, and fortified us against the impending dangers if any. The heritage of spiritual knowledge and the technicalities that were studied and mastered by the Yogi Bhajan brought to the West with him.

This yoga doesn’t mean that you have to renounce the world, or have to go beyond it through profound breathlessness. Rather, it integrates you more completely with the world around you. The yoga practitioners get broader visions and higher sensitivity in relation to the world. Consequently, you will be able to interact with the world more successfully.

How does Kundalini Yoga works?

The Kundalini Yoga is not the one but the combination of different “kriya.” A kriya consists of

  • Posture (asana)
  • Pranayam(systematic breathng)
  • Mantra (chanting)
  • Bandhas (locks)
  • Mudra (hand position)

With the help of these elements, a change is created in both body and mind. These elements work on everything, right from maintaining a flexible spine to refining and boosting spirituality and sexuality. Whatever it might be, everything you are doing is nothing but a kind of kriya.

But, what is the way of working the kriya? Is there any definite way of working of the kriyas? Kundalini yoga is an experience and everyone experiences the kriyas in their own ways. The goal of all these activities is not to take you to some higher physical perfection. Rather, it channelizes our emotions with the help of the body to open all the chakras and raise the power of kundalini chakras.

The practice of this yogic kriyas enhances the mind and body awareness. You will become skilled at quieting the clattering that continually runs through your heads and distract you from the existing events of the world.

Can Kundalini Yoga neutralize man?

During the kriyas the practitioners most of the time suffers from negative emotions. It is not rare, rather normal. You should not try to avoid all this, but visualize them with loving care. A continuous carrying out of Kundalini Yoga can either turn or delete many deep seated unconscious or subconscious emotions. In course time you will be able to remain neutral to all the emotions and feelings till they pass away. Relax and surrender yourself to all these experiences.
