Winter officially begins on 1ST of June in Melbourne. It is a well-known fact that Melbournians are fortunate or unfortunate enough to experience all four seasons in one day. During summer, spring and autumn, when they go out, most carry a sunglass, an umbrella, and a winter jacket while wearing a T-shirt . The weather is so unpredictable. But winter doesn’t bring as many surprises, so an umbrella with a winter jacket will suffice.
If it is not so cold and sun shines beautifully with mild wind giving a brush off to the hair, most Melbournians will call it a beautiful winter day. If the day is so perfect, then that calls for a night of indulgence involving few cocktails with friends, if it is a weekend. That is life in Melbourne. But not for the trees and plants. They have already shed their leaves and got ready for the winter. Autumn is so beautiful in Melbourne too.
“Autumn fades in like a softly sung hymn. There is a rosiness to the leaves that wasn’t there only a week ago. Soon the hills will be aflame, a riot of gold and red. For that brief time our eyes will rise from the damp concrete paths to the beauty above, watching each leaf as it makes its final dance to mother earth, the welcome mat for winter laid out.” (Courtesy: y Angela Abraham (daisy)).
From there the weather has suddenly changed to what Christina Rossetti has described in her poem “In the bleak midwinter”.
“Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.”
For those who can enjoy a cozy evening with warm soups, winter in Melbourne is as perfect as any other season. You don’t have to worry about snow in Melbourne during winter. More over Melbourne is as marvellous as marvellous can be during winter. The barren trees give a different shade to Melbourne. For those who can see beauty in it, will find Winter the most beautiful season in Melbourne. Here are some of the photos to prove it.
