The third edition of ‘NRI of the Year Awards’ was hosted by India’s leading English news channel, Times Now and ICICI Bank on 11th April in Mumbai to recognise the spirit of Global Indian. Australian Indians Ms Sonia Nair and Dhruv Saxena were honoured in Arts and Culture and Entrepreneur categories respectively. Sonia Nair is a dancer specialising in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. She is also an active member of Indian Society of Western Australia.
Dhruv Saxena is the managing director of Riverina Oil and Bio Energy (ROBE). The ROBE initially started in 2009, with a capital cost of $64 million with three partners: Dhruv Saxena, Satya Agarwal, chairman of Bhoruka Group, and Ravi Uppal.
This award is one of the most distinctive awards in India recognising outstanding achievements of Indian diaspora globally. NRI of the Year, this year was also open to any Non Resident Indian (NRI), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian origin (PIO) who resides in USA, Canada, UK, Middle East, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
The third edition of TIMES NOW ICICI Bank NRI of the Year awards was given to 17 individuals under seven different categories — Entrepreneur, Professional, Academics, Arts & Culture, Philanthropy, Special Jury Award, Global Icon of the Year and India’s Global Icon Award.
