Indian Kite Flying Festivals in Australia 2019 (Melbourne, Sydney and Perth)

Makara Sankranti is observed each year in January to mark the first day of sun’s transit into the Makara (Capricorn). While most of the Indian festivals are observed as per the lunar cycle, Makara Sankranti is observed according to Solar cycles. It is celebrated on 14th January every year except in some years when it is shifted by one day.  Kite flying is a tradition followed since ancient times during Makara Sankranti. The significance in India is, after the chilli winter, the spring arrives, and kite festival brings people outside to the exposure of Sun. It is considered to be good for skin and helps in fighting many infections and sickness caused during winter.
