Three teenage girls were sexually assaulted by three Indian men in Woolgoolga on 5th February 2015, after arranging a meeting with the girls through Facebook. The teenagers aged 16 and 15 met up with the men on a private property and were supplied with alcohol. The suspects were Indian students in their 20’s. The assaults were violent in nature.
Apart from this property, a further crime scene was established in sand dunes on Woolgoolga Beach. Following investigations, a 22-year-old man, who allegedly befriended the girls on social media, was arrested about 10.30am yesterday (Monday 9 February 2015) and was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station. He was subsequently charged with indecent assault and attempted sexual assault without consent. Two other suspects flew to China on Friday, February 6, 2015. Investigators have since been able to identify the other two men involved, who have left the country. Police have also charged a 24-year-old man with being an accessory after the fact.
It’s believed, the two wanted men may have been students who recently worked on local blueberry farms.
Police also seized a vehicle for forensic examination.
Police in a press release said that, they are quite concerned about it not only due to the violent nature of the assault, but the fact that alcohol was involved and the tender age of the kids. One of the girls was held down while assaulted.
Coffs-Clarence Police has thanked Woolgoolga’s large Sikh community for its help with the investigation.
