Former taxi driver Singardeep Singh extradited from India to face sex assault charges in Perth
A former Perth taxi driver Singardeep Singh has been extradited from India to face assault charges in Perth.
It was alleged that Mr Singh assaulted an 18 year old woman who travelled in his taxi in Northbridge in January 2011. Mr Singh was charged with six charges of indecent assault and one of sexual penetration without consent. He appeared on Perth Magistrate court on 13th August 2015.
Mr Singh fled to India on January 9, 2011, when police were advised of a second woman who also alleged she was sexually assaulted by the man. The extradition process was lengthy and took nearly four years. Sex Assault squad officers travelled to India to extradite him and he is remanded in custody since then and due to appear in court again in three weeks’ time.
The police report about the incident
Rockingham detectives have charged a 22 year old taxi driver after two incidents in the last week. It will be alleged around 3:15am on Thursday 30 September 2010, a 19 year old woman caught a taxi in Leederville and asked to be driven to Subiaco. During the drive the taxi driver assaulted the woman.
She asked the driver to pull over, and she got out of the taxi and contacted police. It will be further alleged, that around 11:00pm on Sunday 3 October 2010 a 21 year old woman and a friend caught a taxi in Burswood and asked to be taken to Baldivis. Her friend was dropped off first and she continued towards her home. The taxi driver drove past her address to nearby bushland where he indecently assaulted her. As the taxi started to drive back towards the street, the woman has jumped from the car receiving minor injuries and the taxi sped off. A 22 year old Tuart Hill man has been charged with Assault; Indecent Assault and Deprivation of Liberty and will appear in the Rockingham Magistrate’s Court tomorrow
