The spectators at the Shri Shiva Vishnu temple Diwali Celebrations in Melbourne had a fiery end to the festivities when a large grass fire broke out after the fireworks. Fortunately, no one was injured. Fire crews were called in and the fire was under control soon.
Shiva Vishnu temple celebrates Diwali every year with moderate attendance but with fireworks and cultural programs. Though adequate arrangements are made every year to take care of such unfortunate incidents, this is the first time it has gone out of control. The temple celebrated Diwali on 21st October this year.
Shiva Vishnu temple is the most prominent Hindu temple in Victoria. The Foundation stone for the Shiva Vishnu temple at Carrum Downs was laid on 5th June 1988 by Hindu Society of Victoria. Over the years the temple has grown into prominence, as a place of worship for Hindus all around Melbourne. This temple is conceived and built as a traditional Hindu temple in which Pujas and rituals are conducted similar to that of temples in India. After the construction of the large auditorium and Canteen, celebrations of marriages have become a common feature here. All major Hindu festivals like deepavali , holi, Ramnavami are celebrated here every year with dhoom dham.
